Our Covid Crisis Response Centre is an amazing testament to what we can achieve when communities come together for a shared goal. Launched in March 2020, our Response Centre has had nearly 5000 beneficiaries including school children, the elderly, registered disabled individuals, single moms, homeless individuals and victims of domestic abuse.
We collected leftover food from 6 other charities/food banks to avoid food wastage and worked with them to provide winter survival packs (Bags of Blessings) for the homeless. Our work saw us receiving referrals from 5 different schools by headteachers, and we branched out to provide mental health/counselling support and referral support.
All of this was achieved by our amazing team with the help of 50 Volunteers and Partnerships with local community groups who served at the front-line no matter how challenging the circumstances were. Every single person in the team suffered a loss or had ill family members to support and yet they still offered their valuable time and support to deliver aid to the most vulnerable.
Moonlight Trust would like to give a huge thank you to all those involved, including Cllr Masood Ahmed for helping us with the managing and coordinating of deliveries as well as verifying referrals, and those part of our excellent Partnership with Dewsbury South Cllrs Covid Response Group. We would also like to thank Heckmondwike Grammar Sixth Form, and our donors and funders: Phoenix, Kirklees Council, One Community Foundation, Tesco Bags of Help, and Co-Op.
