Moonlight Trust has provided continuous support to local food banks and homeless over the last decade. A Covid Crisis Response Centre was launched in March 2020 in Kirklees to expand our food bank support in Kirklees to provide essential support for those most in need during the pandemic.
This included families, school children, elderly, registered disabled, single mums, homeless people, underrepresented people and victims of domestic abuse.
In total, over 5000 beneficiaries from the local community have been supported since March 2020. A team of 50 volunteers and 10 local community group partnerships to deliver and support the pandemic response work.
Moonlight Trust’s volunteers undertook the arrangements for preparing and packing food and aid parcels/bags and supported the delivery.
To provide support to those most in need, Moonlight Trust received referrals from senior school representatives from 5 different local schools. Support was provided also by local councillor Masood Ahmed for the verification of referrals, with an excellent Partnership with Dewsbury South Cllrs Covid Response Group.
The project benefitted from the longstanding support established by Moonlight Trust from the Thornhill Lees Community Centre, Kirklees, since the initial food bank was established in March 2020. The centre provided a local space in the community for Moonlight Trust’s use for location of their food bank hub for storage/packing.
Moonlight Trust provided or sourced through specialist referrals mental health/counselling support to those in need requesting our support.
Our donors/funders, (One Community, local donors including increasing supply of food by collecting left over food from 6 other charities/food banks to maximise supply available to meet local demand)
We secured funding from a range of sources to enable the food bank aid and aid in Kirklees to be expanded significantly to support the local community during the Covid-19 pandemic. We are appreciative of all donors and funders who support our work in Kirklees (including One Community, Phoenix, funding raised Heckmondwike Grammar School, Piece Hall) and the support provided for our work by local community groups, schools and charity partners.

Bags of Blessings for homeless people in Kirklees
Building on our earlier work and support for the homeless, this is our annual project where we provide winter survival packs kits containing essential good quality supplies, underwear, clothing, boots, equipment and more chosen by homeless which were highlighted as most needed. We have increased our support through donations and match it grant funded for the provision of over 3000 essential items distributed for those homeless in the local community during the winter months.
Our support has impacted some of the most neediest and deprived in the community who have been hit hardest with the devastating impact of pandemic.
